HANDEL Overtures Series These editions are the first in what will be a complete collection of Handel Overtures. Needless to say, the overtures are a treasury of splendid and vintage Handel orchestral music which languish without performances due largely to the practical difficulties involved in putting on complete operas or oratorios. Performances, for example, of Joseph and his Brethren are scarce indeed but the four movement overture is particularly fine and it is truly regrettable that it is never played. The scores are available separately but with a multi-buy option so that total flexibility is achieved and nobody need buy anything they don’t want in order to get something they do [a usual problem with collected editions!]. The edition is based on Chrysander's monumental Ausgabe der Deutschen Händelgesellschaft but with updating according to more current scholarship. The series editor is Anthony Robson. Full score Scores are available either comb-bound or stapled. Comb-bound scores are generally favoured for conducting as they lie flat whereas stapled scores are neater for study purposes.
