The
violinist Johann Peter Salomon was born in Bonn and after travelling and
taking various positions in Germany settled in London for the last 34 years
of his life. He became a significant part of English musical life and was
the impresario responsible for Haydn's visits to London in the 1790s. He was
also arranging for Mozart to visit London in 1792 but Mozart died before he could
fulfil the engagement. Salomon wrote quite a lot of music including operas,
choral, vocal and instrumental music.
