Ignaz Pleyel was a pupil of Haydn. He travelled in Italy, held the post of Kapellmeister at Strasbourg cathedral and travelled to London before finally settling in Paris in 1795. After the death of Haydn he was possibly the most popular composer in Europe. In addition he ran a piano factory and a music publishers.
