JOHANN CHRISTIAN BACH (1735 -1782)
|
Johann Christian Bach (1735-1782),
Youngest of the composer sons of J.S.Bach, he left Leipzig after his father’s death in 1750 and stayed with his older brother, Carl Philip Emanuel in Berlin. From there he travelled in Germany and Italy for a number of years before settling in England in 1762. His style was much influenced by his Italian experiences and was a very important influence on Mozart whose early works sound very much like Bach’s. He was a huge figure in London musical life, writing many operas, and producing series of concerts with his German compatriot C. F. Abel. He was buried in St Pancras Churchyard as was Abel and many musicians of the day.
