Roy Mowatt
Roy originally trained as a ‘modern’ player and moved across to playing period instruments in the early 1980s. He was a founder member of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and for 30 years has also has played for John Eliot Gardiner’s English Baroque Soloists as well as holding the position of principal second violin in Kent Opera and in the English Baroque Soloists. For much of the 1980s he led his own group ‘Lilliburlero’ which specialised in 18th century British music. For the last 20 years or so he has also worked as a recording producer and has over 50 albums to his name so far. His Interest in programme planning has initiated many projects for the OAE and he has also planned programmes for the English Concert.
Jill Samuel
Jill studied for her first degree at the Royal Northern College of Music and as a Fulbright Scholar obtained her M.Mus at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York. Since then she has had a varied career playing in principal seats for the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Orchestra of St. John's Smith Square, London Classical Players, Academy of Ancient Music and the Classical Opera Company. She has also played for the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Les Talens Lyriques, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Orchestra among others.
She is a Visiting Professor at the University of Bucknell, Pennsylvania, and at the Pittsburg Music Academy.
